WHY BROWN LINEN?
BROWN IS THE COLOR OF DIRT.
It is earth - it is clay. It is the starting point of everything that is beautiful in creation. Brown starts out muddled and humble in the ground, but is molded to become something astonishing. Isaiah 64:8 says that “We are the clay, and the Lord our Father is the potter. We are all formed by his hand.”
LINEN IS LIGHT AND EASY.
It is breathable, carefree, woven, and spun. In Matthew 11:30, Jesus asks a powerful question: “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out?”
His solution is like linen - “Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a rest… Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
As an artist, it is easy to get caught up in the “noise” around us. We are visual people, captivated by the world. It is so natural to find ourselves moving from being inspired by the art around us, to being controlled by it. When we slip into the dogma of society, we are easily distracted from what we were created by God to do- our destiny.
We want our business to reflect the beauty of being “brown linen”. We want to create from the overflow of what He is doing in and around us, and to love people the way that He does. We want to be moldable and teachable; carefree and light in the hands of the Father.
“I, your God, have a firm grip on you, and I’m not letting go.” (Isaiah 41:13)
Meet Abany —
THE FACE BEHIND BROWN LINEN
Equipped with a name like Abany (AA-Bun-EE) and an eye for the intangible, it seems as if she was always destined to be an artist. With a background in classical music and fine art, Abany began two businesses as a stationery and floral designer in her 20s. She worked with some of the best and brightest in the wedding and event industry, traveling to the far reaches of the globe to hone her craft.
During these years, she found that the place her heart felt most alive was right at home in Atlanta, Georgia, growing a family with her über-kind and handsome husband, Matt. Becoming a mom to Willa and Jax prompted her to leave her own business and take a role as Creative Director for a non-profit organization. Here, she helped to grow all of the brand communication, from art direction and brand clarity, to social media strategy, to print and web design.
She took what she learned in those years, re-imagined, and re-launched Brown Linen Design. Equipped with a lot of passion for design, and a heck of a lot of real-life lessons in running a business, she hopes that her expertise in branding will serve as a springboard for other businesses and creative souls.
